"The power of injection-molded bumpers lies in the fact that no alternative process can match or surpass its overall performance across all five of these aspects:
Metal (Steel/Aluminum): Shows clear disadvantages in cost (material & manufacturing), lightweighting, design freedom (complex curves/functional integration), and pedestrian protection.
SMC (Sheet Molding Compound): Falls short of injection molding in efficiency (long cycle times), design freedom (details/thin walls), recyclability, and surface finishability (often requiring a primer coat).
Thermosetting Plastics/Composites: Suffer from low efficiency, difficulty in recycling (thermosetting nature), and typically higher costs (especially carbon fiber).
3D Printing: Currently suitable only for prototypes or very low volumes; its cost, efficiency, and material performance (especially impact resistance and weatherability) are far from meeting mass production requirements.
